CAUSES OF SINUS PRESSURE AND PAIN
As described on the Congestion page, swollen nasal passages and the build-up of mucus cause congestion. Swollen and inflamed tissues can also cause pressure on nerve endings around your sinuses. This leads to dull or throbbing pain and aches.
WHICH SINUSES ARE CAUSING YOUR SINUS PAIN?
Frontal
causes forehead pain, headaches
Ethmoid
causes pain between the eyes, across the nose
Maxillary
causes pain in the cheeks, upper jaw/teeth
Sphenoid
causes pain behind the eyes, on the top of the scalp, along the back of the head
TIPS FOR SINUS PRESSURE AND PAIN RELIEF
Chill out your sinuses.
Anything you can do to cool your head can ease some of the pain. An ice mask, bag of ice, or even a cold compress can help.
Massage and relax.
Stress often makes your sinus symptoms feel worse. Gently massaging your neck and shoulders, while not linked to your sinuses, can help you relax which can give you relief.
Consider taking a sinus decongestant with a pain-reliever.
A combination of a decongestant with a pain-reliever, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can help relieve sinus pressure and pain.
